The Journey Continues...

If you know anything about me, you know that I have a unique life—I’m a Mom, Birth Mom, Wife, etc. but most important, a follower of Christ.   It is my passion to meet women where they are at… even if it is in the trenches of life.  You see, 22 years ago, I needed someone to come into my life’s trenches and pull me out—and thank God someone put on her rain boots and came down to meet me in all my gunk.  Since then, I have chosen to be real and not sugarcoat the good and bad, as I want my story to impact others on their journey.

For the last two decades, I have openly shared about my life and adoption decision but have been reserved on sharing about “K”—my first child.  I made this decision for a few reasons, but the most important one is that I just don’t have the right to share her story.  She is unique, complex and has a different perspective than my own.

Well, now that she is nearing 21, I want to give her a voice.  She has a story that is unfolding each day—with new struggles, joys, conversations, relationships—as she is navigating life.

I invite you to visit the blog  and learn more about the young lady that I have loved from afar for over twenty years.

Hope you are having a wonderful day,

Janelle

Our cupboards are feeling a little empty lately...

Every few months, our House Manager sends me a list of items that are needing to restock the Liberty Godparent Home pantry.   Feeding these young ladies is a unique challenge as they come with different backgrounds, growing bellies and we have a limited budget.   So, if you want to do something simple to help us, feel free to help us fill our cupboards!  If you aren't local but would like to help, gift cards are a huge help.  (WalMart, Kroger, Target, Big Lots)

Thanks in advance for your help!
Janelle

Beans
All kinds: Especially Baked Beans, Pinto, Black Beans, Chili, Kidney Beans, Black Eyed Peas, White Beans, Garbanzo, etc.

Salad dressings
A wide variety of Salad dressings, lemon juice and Olive Oil would be helpful. We eat a lot of fresh greens.

A Special Thank You

A few months ago, I received an email from Teddy James, a journalist with the American Family Association Journal.  As we emailed back and forth, he reminded me about our first meeting two years ago.   Incredibly, I remembered him... generally, I am struggling to remember what I did last month so that was a blessing!

Our paths had first crossed while I was exhibiting for the Home at a conference in North Carolina.  I didn't think much of our initial conversation as it was short and normal "exhibit talk"-- in under 10 seconds: who we are, what we do and how we change lives.  As we exchanged cards, he shared his interest in writing a piece about the Liberty Godparent Maternity Home and would contact me in the future.  Upon my return home, I slipped it in my "keep" file of business cards and hoped to hear from him.

Well, two years later and after a long phone interview, the article is complete and timing couldn't be more perfect.   January 22, 2015 marks the 42nd year since the U.S. Supreme Court decided to legalize abortion in our country.  In our little town of Lynchburg, Virginia, we have housed over 1,200 expecting Moms that needed another option-- which also means that 1,200 babies were saved from abortion.   These ladies have come to us from all across the U.S.-- and sometimes beyond the borders.

Teddy, thank you for taking the time to come to our booth at the conference and listen to who we are, what we do and how we change lives.  My prayer is that God will use your words through this story to continue getting our name in front of those that need our help.

Please take a moment to read and share the article (CLICK HERE) that was written about the Godparent Home program.

Have a blessed day~  Janelle

How can we pray for you?

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about some different ways that you can pray for us.  Well, I want to turn the conversation around and ask... How can we pray for you?

Each Wednesday morning at 8:45am, the staff of the Liberty Godparent Home and Family Life Services come together in the dining room.  As we sit around the table sipping coffee, we chat about our lives, share requests for family, loved ones, and the ministries.  Wow- their is power in prayer.

So, how can we pray for you?  Feel free to leave a request below or message us on Facebook (I linked our FB pages in the paragraph above).  It is our goal to make an impact and if we can do that through the power of prayer, please share your requests with us-- even if it is as simple as "please pray for me...."
