LGH Update

Hello Fear
Before you sit down there's something I need to explain
Since you're here
I think I should tell you since we last talked things have changed
See I'm tired of being broken-hearted
So I made a list and you're on it
All my hopes and my dreams You took from me
I want those back before you leave

These are words by Kirk Franklin, vocal artist, who performed last weekend at LU. The LGH girls were there. This verse is one girl’s favorite.

Not only did they get to hear Kirk in concert, but Tasha Cobbs performed too. They loved it!

So what ministers to you?  Teaching? Serving? Music? Prayer?

We are all designed differently and we feel close to God in a variety of ways. For a lot of girls it’s through music. This current group of ladies is especially encouraged by it. They love their music devotions, cd’s, and concerts. We often hear them singing throughout the house and let me just say- there are definitely certain rooms that echo more than others !

Once I walked into our recreation room in the morning to find a young lady on the couch, with a Youtube music video on. The lyrics were on the screen, and her hands were outstretched as she sang, tears pouring down her face. I quietly gave her privacy, yet that scene has often played itself over again in my mind. We are thankful she felt safe enough to have such beautiful worship time with God.

Kari Jobe is another favorite musician of the girls, and she led worship when Christine Cain spoke at L.U. Another great experience they had!

The Bachelor, Sean Lowe, also came to speak. He is married now, and had great advice for students. The girls were guests in the Presidents box this month in convocation, and they were tickled to have an awesome view and be in comfortable seats. They were especially happy with a little more privacy than usual.

And then back to the regular LGH schedule: the ladies have attended many parenting classes and have begun the hard work of obtaining a GED, as well as a driver’s license. Every young woman needs to understand Professionalism and Communication in the Work Place, and in preparation they attended a presentation on this subject.

The Reality Works doll was named Joseph this time around, and his young ‘mother’ worked diligently to complete the assignment, which included getting up all hours through the night and taking her ‘baby’ everywhere we went. She was continually open to insight from staff on caring for an infant and she finished well.

Parenting Support Group, Women’s Bible Study and visits from the Gideon Society and HumanKind workers went as planned. Our residents also worked on Life Projects, in which they retold their stories in book or poster form, using pictures as visual aides. This is an assignment they really enjoy. They also look forward to Prenatal and Lamaze Classes. Pregnant women can just never have enough pregnancy information! It’s something they all want!

Crocheting, Knitting, Scrapbooking and a few movies from Red Box got them through some snowy days. (BTW, they could use any yarn donations- even leftovers!)

They warmed up one evening at the White Hart CafĂ© with live music and flavored hot chocolate. Then, despite cold weather, Monday had them pulling a few carrots and scallions at the L.U. garden domes. There’s nothing like fresh veggies in your dinner recipe!
Snow made it’s way in though, as evidenced by our freezer contents- we found mini-snowmen in there from our big snowstorm day. J

We have also had many folks helping us out with our pantry and our groceries lately! God’s people have rallied around us.
The ladies appreciated the flowers, red and pink slippers, chocolates, nail polish, and scented lotions that came for Valentines Day too. So thank you to all who gave.
Please keep praying for them. Their conversations lately were about how they will teach their little ones about God, and about wanting to leave in a better overall condition than when they came. Amen to that!

Sing to the Lord a new song, sing to the Lord, all the earth…Psalm 91:1
