The Kindness of Others

On Saturday morning while many were sleeping in, starting laundry, or debating what to do for the day, a group of ladies from Union Street Missionary Baptist Church were traveling an hour to donate their time to our ministry.

As they piled in the home, they were excited to help and truly be the hands and feet of Christ.  The simple but time consuming task that they completed will impact each parenting mother that completes our program!  As the Houseparent pulled together the many donations we have received from our Amazon Wish List, the ladies started sorting and creating our first batch of New Mom Starter Bags.  These bags will be given close to delivery and include essentials that each mom will need for those first few weeks.

Wondering what is in each bag?  First, we have diaper bags that are sturdy and gender neutral.  We then fill each one with the same items although color appropriate for a girl or boy—onesies, a sleeper, receiving blanket, a healthcare kit, bibs, burp cloths, diapers, wipes, gas drops, etc.

What a blessing to see the bags filled and nearly ready to be handed out.  However, we were a few items short.  To complete the bags, we are still needing:

Are you interested in filling this need?  If so, visit our Amazon Wish List to make a purchase or consider buying them at your local store.

We are working together to make a difference by supporting these young ladies that bravely choose life.  Now, let’s help them be successful!

Serving our Community

Last evening, we joined local nonprofits that were being honored at the 2015 Lynchburg Living Giving Back Awards Reception.  The room was filled with a buzz as people mingled, laughed, and shared updates of happenings within the organizations they represented.

As we took our seats for the presentation, the Managing Editor, Jennifer Redmond, shared that over 170 organizations were in the initial round with only the top 25 being recognized in the magazine.  Looking around the room, I saw many familiar faces of those that we have partnered with as we work together for the common goal of making an impact in someone’s life.

To be a small part of the event was an honor as the Liberty Godparent Maternity Home was voted the #6 Nonprofit in our community for 2015.  Thank you to all that took time to vote!  We appreciate you.

I must also say a special congratulation to Family LifeServices, our partner ministry, who were voted #3. It is an pleasure to share a building with their team, brainstorm on ways to better impact our community, and see lives changed because of the compassion they display.

Congratulations to all of the top-voted local nonprofits!  It was encouraging to sit with many others that are are passionate about impacting lives and improving our community.

Join the Movement... Make an Impact!

Are we pro-adoption or pro-parenting?  Actually, we are both.  Most important, we are pro-life.

With this in mind, we educate and support our residents in whatever decision they choose for their child.  In order to do this in a manner that is balanced, we are constantly educating the team and reaching out for resources.

A few years ago, we learned of a new organization, Bravelove, and loved their desire to change the perception of adoption.   They promote adoption by using honest, informative, and hopeful communication as they strive to reach every community with a positive adoption message.

The Liberty Godparent Home and Family Life Services were asked to be part of a video “Together We Can Make an Impact” which shows clips of individuals from all across the US that share this same goal. When you have a few moments, watch the video and I highly recommend watching minute 6:10-6:30 (wink, wink).

If you know a young lady that is pregnant and considering an adoption plan for her child, please pass on our contact information.  Our Home is equipped to help her walk through the decision making process, help her create positive goals for the future, and ensure that she has the support to move forward in life!

Adoption is a tough decision for a birth family and the hardest decision anyone chooses to make. When I think of who birth moms are, a few words come to mind….
…. Unmeasurable love
…. Stronger than Wonder Woman
…. Brave
…. Trusting
…. Broken Hearted
…. Determined

Watch this Bravelove video.  Pass it along.

And then give us your thoughts… when you think of a birth mom, what words come to mind?
